![]() Now that’s something for Non to curl up into the fetal position over. Richard Lester might have to make some improvements to his movie so that Superman’s status in the DC universe is safe. Can you imagine how many evil lanterns Hal could temporarily inconvenience with all of those floating emblems? I can see how this might potentially upset the hierarchy in the DC universe though. See that? Even Kyle Rayner knows what's up. ![]() Now that’s how you one-up the competition and maneuver your way into DC’s big-three. Comics have to show that they're moving forward, right? You know, come to think of it, I don’t think it’s enough for Hal to just plagiarize Supes. On that note, who am I to say that Hal Jordan doesn’t deserve his own lime flavored fruit roll-up trap too? Take that Non! Hmm. Even Family Guy had to pay their respects. And he was hiding it from us when we were just kids! What an ass. That cellophane S was always a cool power that we never knew Clark was hiding from us. Hey, you know that might actually be a great way to pay homage to Superman 2. Do these emblems pose an inconvenience to the bad guys? Can Hal just grab those cellophane lantern insignias, and throw them at Non for example? Everything else on the page is just ordinary by comparison. See what I mean? You can’t help but stare at it with the people's eyebrow. Is it a diagram to help artists remember what the logo is supposed to look like when it doesn’t follow the contours of his chest? If memory serves, I think Ethan Van Sciver is the one that started this trend. “Why is there a flat logo floating out there in front of the one on his chest?” I thought to myself. Believe me, I'm glad to see Hal Jordan art again, but I think the first time that I saw this.experiment, it looked like a mistake. Whenever I see it, I know that something is still slightly Bizarro World in the 21st century. ![]() However, there’s one trend that I’m hoping won’t survive too much longer into this decade. With all the Green Lantern art on covers, posters, and websites, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia when I see a familiar character back in the limelight. DC is truly pushing him if in fact Ryan Reynolds is going to do 3 movies in 3 years. When was the last time that Green Lantern could say that he had a feature length animated DVD out in the stores? The whole DC Universe seems to hinge on this guy with Blackest Night and Brightest Day tied into everything. Over the last decade though, you could say that he’s experienced somewhat of a resurgence. I have to say that I kind of lost interest in the character when he became Parallax. Hal went through some rough times in the 90s. Their designs are simple, their logos are easy to draw, and they have great colour schemes. He said that out of all the costumes in comics, Green Lantern, and Flash have the best ones. When he saw a few comic book illustrations in my portfolio, he really got going. I still remember a conversation I had with an art director about 11 years ago. After college, but before I got into my current line of work, I lugged a portfolio around town trying to get a job as an illustrator. Later, when I started to collect comics, I got the 6 issue Emerald Dawn series. I still remember that episode of the Super Powers cartoon when the Legion of Doom went back in time to prevent the Justice League’s most powerful members from existing: Superman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern. Green Lantern was one of the first action figures I got, and I was pretty choked when I lost his lantern accessory. Way back in the 80s, there was the awesome Super Powers line of DC figures. You need to take advantage of that"īefore I focus on one of my pet peeves, I think I need to do a quick snapshot of where my perspective on Hal comes from. "The internet is a place where absolutely NOTHING happens. As a popular flash animated character has once said: That said, it's 2010, and I think it's high time to talk about something new. I must say, there sure are a lot of anonymous funny magazine philosophers out there willing to offer their expert opinions about the same things. If you surfed the whole internet a couple of times, you would find that Rob Liefeld is still a very popular punching bag among the 'pundits'. Looking back, there are sooooo many things from the late 80s and early 90s comics that are funny as all hell to look at now. Before I take a crack at this, let me say first of all that the quality of art in comics has come a long way.
